All the Year Round Title
Title
Description
All the Year Round, a weekly journal published in England by Charles Dickens, featured an unillustrated version of The Moonstone. Each installment of the story was released in plain text in standard magazine or book format with double panelled pages. The title from the periodical, heads the first image in this exhibit, introducing the issue. Directly under the title of the weekly journal is the title of the current installation of The Moonstone. That The Moonstone is the first story in the periodical shows that it is one of the most prominent works in the issue. The title of the Moonstone itself is in a large, capitalized, font that echoes the style of the journal title and separates it from the titles of other pieces included in the publication. Its brief description is mildly stylized and spatially laid out to draw attention to the title where every other part of the page is densely packed with text. This description also mentions a previous work of the author (not mentioned by name), “The Woman in White”, to draw on his previous reputation and state the authenticity of the story’s source (All the Year Round) to make it more marketable, given “the lack of international copyright law” (Leighton and Surridge 208) at the time.
